Longer Tables & Higher Ceilings: Mentorship, Sisterhood, and Leadership in Action

I stand on the shoulders of incredible people, Black women especially, who mentored me, sponsored me, and poured life into me throughout my career. Their guidance not only opened doors for me but taught me what it means to lead with authenticity, courage, and purpose.

Because of them, my life’s goal has always been clear: to become the person (woman) I once needed. This International Women’s Month and really, every month, it is my greatest joy and calling to share what I’ve learned, both personal and professional, with other women walking their own leadership journeys.

A Night of Power, Purpose, and Connection

Recently, I had the honor of joining the Socialite Society’s first networking mixer of the year, an unforgettable evening dedicated to celebrating Women in Power. Some of Chicago’s brilliant young women leaders came together to connect, uplift, and remind one another that leadership doesn’t have to be lonely.

We explored powerful themes that every woman leader knows intimately:

  • Everyday Leadership: Leading in ways that don’t always come with titles or accolades but leave a lasting impact.

  • Authenticity in Transition: Navigating career pivots and personal shifts while staying true to yourself.

  • Redefining Success: Challenging outdated definitions of achievement and making room for joy, purpose, and wholeness.

It might have been a panel discussion, but it was also a gathering of shared wisdom, resilience, and community. Everyone, myself included, walked away feeling motivated, renewed, and ready to step boldly into their purpose.

Women In Power

Leadership for women, especially women of color, goes beyond climbing ladders, breaking ceilings, or securing seats at the table. It’s about building longer tables, pulling up chairs for others, and making sure no one climbs alone.

Mentorship is my radical act of resistance and love. Because every time I share knowledge from my lived experiences, open a door, or pour life into another woman, I’m helping to break the barriers that once held us back. We’re shaping workplaces, communities, and futures where women lead unapologetically, on their own terms.

I’m endlessly grateful to every woman who showed up ready to give, receive, and rise together. The conversations were unmatched, the connections were real, and the ripple effect of this evening will go far beyond that room.
